Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by. If you follow us on social media you may have seen that we’ve been sharing pictures of a recent project in Hamilton that we’ve completed. This project is on MacDonald Ave in the vicinity of McMaster University. This is an area know for older homes, which means it has been an area ripe for renovations and upgrades for a long time. As a matter of fact, when I worked for the company in it’s a fledgling days as a labourer, the very first job I helped with was in this area.
So in a way doing a job here is a return to our roots. However, we return to the area in a new context because, if you are new to us, you may not know that we started as electrical contractors and it’s only been 3 years since we jumped into the general contracting game. It is also a job that is slightly out of character for us because we specialize in creating legal second units out of single family homes and this job is actually a flip.
As you will see in the images below and in the video, this house was incredibly dated, which I can say with a great degree of certainty is the norm for this area. However, it was a bit of a trip since it has been so long since we had done a flip. Our typical process with projects is to tear down to the studs and build back up adding everything needed to separate and legalize the units. Here we explored, fixed anything wrong, updated the electrical and made aesthetic improvements to bring this home into the 21st century.
This time capsule from the 70’s had a couple things going for it that we were brought out with our renovations. First there were lots of large windows letting in lots of natural light, however this was severely muted by the drab colours and worse….the abundance of wood paneling. Well, that’s gone now. We painted in more neutral colours that help brighten up the spaces as well as ripped up the carpet and put down our signature vinyl flooring to contrast nicely with the walls.
We’ll let you check out the pics and videos to see the rest, but we are happy to sign this off as the first completed job of the new year. We were happy to have a change of pace from basement units and for the chance to show the variety of jobs we can perform for our investor clients.
